Kahil's 3rd Birthday Party - "Oh, The Places You'll Go"

Goodness me!

I haven’t updated this blog in about a year or so! Unbelievable…

The events side of things has completely taken a backseat in the last year, so to be honest, there hasn't been much to write about.

And again, all I have to give you this time are details of my son’s birthday party. This time, as he was turning three, we decided to go all out. They are really at that age when they are understanding the idea of birthdays really well and they even talk about it with the other kids at nursery school.

So we planned a party at a fabulous kid’s party venue – Kid-E-Up Party Yard (Go check them out – they are AB FAB!)

And we invited the entire class of thirty two kids (The parents of half the class didn't even RSVP, but that is another story for another blog… *sigh*)

This party made me really grumpy. I am not exactly sure why, but I think it may have had something to do with it being so much more rewarding to plan last year’s party than it was for this year, or maybe I was just bogged down with so many other things. But, my mother and sister pushed and pushed and pushed and eventually, things started taking shape.  At the end of the day, we were doing this for Kahil, and I actually ended up having lots of fun with it.

Had I asked the little prince what he wanted for his birthday party, he would've chose Barney again, or some other character from the TV shows he watches. So I took matters into my own hands and decided the theme would be Dr Seuss’ “Oh, The Places You’ll Go”.

Now, I had my reasons for this completely arb choice. Firstly, I love the book – it is so inspirational and I wish all of that (and more) for my son. Secondly, the cover had a multitude of colours that I could base the party on – and not have to drag myself to a million party shops and websites to find purple and green tablecloths, party cups, plates, banners, etc.

OK, so there. I’ve defended my choice. My sister (and the real brain behind all of these events…) insisted I go to “HER NEPHEW” and ask him what he would like.

So I did. I called him to me, put him up on my lap and asked him what he would like for his birthday party. Answer? “Juice, Mama. Juice is nice”

“Fine baby, of course we will have juice for you and your friends” I answered, while giving my sister my most victorious and smug look. She rolled her eyes (as she often does with me… but again, that is another story for another blog…)

In any case, we did completely go off the theme, but that was to be expected… I had chosen it for it’s broad range of what we could do anyway ;-)

Onto the party:

I sent out the invites – by email. I mean, how difficult is it to respond to an email? OK  before I go off on my RSVP rant again, let’s just move on.

We ordered food from a fantastic bakery (Fournos – go check them out!), and because the party was held in the morning, it seemed an obvious choice to go with continental breakfast food. Not for the kids though... the kids wanted sweets (as they do)

Of course, my mom and mother-in-law helped out with this A LOT!

I have to say, I delegated - A LOT!

The venue did much for us too. 

They provide all equipment: Tables, chairs, dishes and even an assistant to help throughout the party. 

They offer a great service where the kids can sit together and make their own pizzas for lunch and we decided that that would be great idea. The kids loved making their own pizzas and eating them afterwards!

All in all, it was a casual, friendly and marvelous party that not only the kids enjoyed, but the parents did as well!
