Midnight in Paris - Bridal Shower/ Bachelorette Party

Verushka’s Bridal Shower:
Venue: Complex Clubhouse (Midrand)
Theme: Midnight in Paris

In August 2012, I had the absolute honour of planning and hosting my sister’s bridal shower/ bachelorette party.

Now, I know that etiquette customs say that a family member shouldn’t plan this, but I thought, “I’ll only ever get this chance once, and if I know my sister, she would want me to be the one that plans this party”!

We usually plan and host these parties together, and work together on anything that comes through, but this time I was on my own, and the brain behind the detail was the one the party was for - I had quite a task ahead of me!

From the outset, the idea was a night of fun for the special friends in her life, to share the day with her, and celebrate the love this couple shares. The other VERY important thing was... FUN :-)

And knowing my perfectionist sister, I knew that the party had to be everything she wanted and I would have to pay attention to the most minute details. So with that, I set about planning her shower. I am still unsure as to how I came up with the theme… I wanted a high tea sort of set-up, (think picture below)...

BUT, I knew my sister has an extremely naughty side, and so if it was a high tea – it would have to be a Victorian Era type event (again, see picture below). Just kidding!

In any case, I was browsing through a magazine one day and saw an ad for an upcoming movie, Midnight in Paris. I thought… “Ok, now that sounds good”. A French-themed patisserie party! Was I excitedor what?! What's more French than pastries and champagne and roses? LOVE, that's what! This was going to be the best bridal shower ever :-)

I decided to set it up as a trip for the bride-to-be and her gal-pals. The invitations were boarding passes for a trip to Paris. The invitees were told "to pack" the quintessential LBD (that little acronym had some of the girls REALLY confused :)).

A few friends and I transformed a complex clubhouse into a beautiful room, complete with patisserie posters and a banner of the Eiffel Tower at night. Everything was black, white and pink - just girly and lovely!

We had 2 dessert tables set up with the most delicious mini tarts, cakes and there were pink rose petals everywhere.

We dressed the bride-to-be up as a French chamber maid, and luckily she definitely has the figure for it, and looked great!

We also had the most amazing cake, baked by the lovely ladies at Sugar & Spice in Edenvale. I found something similar on Pinterest and tweaked the design to suit my needs. Not too unbelievable - this has now become a popular design at Sugar and Spice. Someone even had a trio of wedding cakes done in this way!

I also packed a little goodie bag for each of the girls. It was a little brown paper bag, with a pack of pocket tissues, chocolates, mints, a pair of earrings, and a Parisian postcard.
It was all tied together with a little Paris picture stapled to the bag with some ribbon.

For drinks, I made a cocktail of vodka, rose water, cranberry juice, topped up with soda - was to DIE for!

The overriding theme was most defeinitely all things pink, girly and Parisian. It was an amazing day, with fun had by all that attended. My sister loved it, and so did everyone else that was there that day.
